She wasn’t any worse than other Raj’s girls.

Summary:

  • The Big Bang Theory was a CBS sitcom that ran from 2007 to 2019.
  • The fandom agrees on the worst character of the series, Lucy, who was Raj's first love interest on the show.
  • However, Lucy would be no better or worse than any of the love interests that followed if the writers did her justice.

The thing about The Big Bang Theory is that it is as much hated as it is loved. While there is a huge fanbase of the sitcom that continues to binge-watch the show to this day, making the most-streamed lists year after year, there is also a whole army of haters.

Whether they don't see the appeal in the concept of the show, can't appreciate the creepiness of Howard in the beginning of the show, or just don't like the writing style, all their opinions are valid as long as they are respectful.

Even more, there is one character on The Big Bang Theory that the fandom hates with the same passion as any actual hater.

Lucy, portrayed by Kate Micucci, still feels like one of the worst characters on the show. Not just for the way she treated Raj, but mostly for the way her character was written to exist in only one dimension.

Why Did Lucy Leave The Big Bang Theory?

Lucy was first introduced as a potential love interest for Raj, who was still struggling with his selective mutism at the time. However, he wasn't the only one struggling in this failed relationship, as Lucy had a severe case of social anxiety and couldn't bring herself to interact with too many people.

Long story short, while Raj did his best to fight his problem and move forward, excited about the relationship, Lucy stayed put, uncomfortable as she was.

When Raj asked her to meet his friends for an introduction, she agreed at first, but then chickened out and left him alone. That was the last straw that broke the relationship.

Although this storyline ended up being the final nail in Lucy's coffin, it didn't have to be. All of The Big Bang Theory's characters have made mistakes and learned from them to become better people.

Given Raj's sweet demeanor, it was very likely that he would forgive Lucy if only she would show some sign of redemption.

One of the biggest problems the fandom sees with Lucy, aside from the fact that she's hurting Raj, is that she's written to be completely flat. All characters, like all real people, are supposed to be a mixture of different qualities in different proportions. But Lucy's entire personality is her anxiety disorder.

Without anything nice or redeeming about her, Lucy as a character was botched from the very beginning. Just like any other girl, she could have easily stuck around if there was at least a little something to explore about her other than her fear of people.

If you need to refresh your memory on the brief but still outrageous history of Raj and Lucy's relationship, The Big Bang Theory is available for streaming on Max.
