The Big Bang Theory’s Leonard Is Responsible For Penny’s Poor Social Life

The Big Bang Theory is an ensemble cast show where every character serves a particular point in the story. That’s why it’s impossible to say who is more important for the narrative, as without any of them the show would never be the same.

Of course, we could have lived without some of the side characters, even if by paying the price of leaving out many ridiculous storylines and funny scenes. But apparently, there were some people who we even didn’t notice being left out of the story.

The people we are talking about are actually Penny's friends, introduced gradually under different circumstances. However, as the story progressed, even Penny's few friends ended up in the void. But why? Is it really Leonard's fault?

Well, there are some fan theories that Leonard drove away all of Penny's friends, not in a brutal alpha-male way, but by making her more mature and domestic. When she started hanging out with our lovable nerds, her social circle just naturally changed.

What also makes sense about why we don't see Penny's friends much on the show is that her life is also mostly shown from Sheldon and Leonard's POV. It’s also important to point out her growth as a character. She stopped being a party girl and turned into a successful woman.

Another good point is that many of her former friends were also friends of her ex-boyfriend Curt, and after they broke up, there was no way she wanted them in her life anymore.

Adding to all of that the fact that she then became friends with Bernadette and Amy, and as we witnessed the progress of the relationships between them all, it was obvious Penny didn’t have a bond as strong as with them with anybody before.

So maybe in a way we can say that Leonard did drive away her former friends, but he did it somehow unconsciously and mostly by making her life a little better and introducing her to new friends.
