The Big Bang Theory had an impressive list of guest stars throughout its history, but the moment that the fans got most excited about was the episode which brought mechanical engineer Bill Nye and actor Bob Newhart to the screen together.
The latter used to appear in the series from time to time reprising his role of Professor Proton that the main character, Sheldon Cooper, admired so much.
Bill Nye recently revealed how he really felt while working on that episode with the legendary actor. Even though their characters appear to be harsh competitors in the show, nothing has ever been like this in real life — as the scientist recalls, he was nervous before meeting Newhart on the set as he didn’t know if they’d ever get along, but everything turned out much better than Nye expected.
He also admitted he’d been the actor’s fan for quite a long time before he was invited to briefly join the famous show. This gave Nye one more reason to be worried about the meeting with his idol, but instead he was just stunned by how humble and down-to-earth Bob Newhart was in reality.
As a result, Bill Nye had zero trouble with the famous actor — in fact, they had such a good time on the set together that the engineer eventually called Newhart “a consummate bro” also mentioning that working with him was “quite a treat”.
The whole experience, as the scientist recounts, was “gratifying and fun”, even though he wasn’t surprised at all by how great the actor was. Seems like what’s been a delight for Bill Nye was also a double delight for fans as they got to see two legendary people sharing the screen.
