It is what it is, time to deal with it and move on.

Summary:

  • The Big Bang Theory is a CBS sitcom that aired from 2007 to 2019.
  • The show has followed the lives of four nerdy friends as they navigate adulthood and welcome their new neighbor Penny into their lives.
  • Even though one of the characters, Raj, ended up alone in the finale, writer Steve Holland believes it was the right choice.

One of the reasons The Big Bang Theory was so appealing to so many people was the way they could relate to the show. Starting out as young adults with secure jobs but lacking social skills, all of the main characters had their own quirks and flaws that they had to work around while building their lives the way they wanted them to be.

While the finale proved that the past 12 years that viewers have spent watching the show and the characters have lived within the fictional universe have helped them grow and achieve their goals, not everyone got an equally happy ending.

Penny, who dreamed of becoming an actress, was trapped in her corporate job and became pregnant, while Raj ended up as the only one of the group without a significant other in sight.

Even though fans spent years demanding justice for Raj, the creative team behind the show seems to be happy with the decision they made.

Who Would Raj End Up With In The Big Bang Theory?

In an interview with Jessica Radloff that became part of the book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, the show's co-producer and writer, Steve Holland, stood by the decision to make Raj single at the end of the series.

Despite various disagreements from the fandom, the writer believes it was the only option true to the character.

However, there is one person he could see Raj ending up with if the stars were aligned. The only woman out of the many he met over the course of 12 seasons that seemed to fit his personality:

“I probably would have said if he would have wound up with anyone, it would have been Laura Spencer's Emily. But I do think it was nice and real how we left Raj in the finale. <...> I wanted more for Raj than that. I think someday Raj will find love, but it just hasn't happened yet,” Holland explained.

So, if you were a fan of Raj and Emily together, you are the closest to having the only correct opinion about his love life, according to the show's creators. But don't worry if you disagree.

After all, the only canon is what we've seen on the show, and any opinions from behind the camera, while valid, shouldn't always affect your perspective.

With The Big Bang Theory spinoff awaiting production time on HBO, there is still a chance to see Raj the way most fans want to see him: in a happy and loving relationship. So if you are interested, stay tuned for more news and updates.
