There’s only one character who deserves to continue on.

Summary:

  • The Big Bang Theory is one of the most popular CBS sitcoms that aired for 12 seasons from 2007 to 2019.
  • The show focused on 5 original characters: Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, Raj, and their new neighbor Penny.
  • Each character had their own development arc, but some fans feel that it was dragged out for far too long.

If you have ever watched at least a few episodes of The Big Bang Theory, you have probably already found a favorite among all the characters. From social butterfly Penny, who doesn't have a lot of money but is determined to make it as an actress, to shy and quiet Raj, who can't find love because of his selective mutism.

Each character is deeply flawed, and each of them goes through a character development arc that culminates in the finale. Fortunately for both the characters in the universe and the viewers on the other side of the screen, everyone gets a happy ending.

The only bone fans have to pick with the creative team behind The Big Bang Theory is that the show has dragged these stories out for far too long.

The Big Bang Theory Finale

As the show focused on the stories of the five original characters, other characters were introduced along the way. Bernadette, who eventually became Howard's wife, and Amy, who found love with Sheldon, were controversial additions to the regular cast, but have grown on viewers over the years.

Their characters were also crucial to making the dream finale work the way it did.

When we first meet Howard, he seems like a loser to most people. Even worse, he has a slightly perverted and crude attitude towards women, which doesn't make him the most sympathetic character. However, he evolves through his relationship with Bernadette, which culminates with the birth of their first child in season 10.

Another character whose story could have been wrapped up long before the end of the series is Leonard, whose main quest for the show revolves around his relationship with Penny. The "will they, won't they" couple of the show finally tied the knot in season 9, so their relationship has also reached its climax.

Sheldon was probably the character who changed the most over the course of the show, but he achieved his ultimate scientific goal and was awarded the Nobel Prize alongside his wife Amy. But you could argue that getting married, moving apartments, and dealing with all the changes were the most important steps in his development. And that all happened in season 11.

If the creative team behind The Big Bang Theory wanted to speed things up a bit, it could have all ended on a more realistic note and a little earlier.

And what about Raj? Well, as much as we all hoped that Raj would open up and build a relationship of his own, that was not the plan that Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady had in mind. Raj's greatest achievement was overcoming his selective mutism in the first place, and for the rest of his journey, it seems that the length of The Big Bang Theory wasn't enough.

On the bright side, he may get the chance to finally find his true love in the newly planned HBO spin-off of the sitcom. Details are still scarce, so literally anything could happen. If you are interested, keep an eye out for more news and behind-the-scenes updates as they come in!
