'The Ballad of Songbirds And Snakes': What Will 'Hunger Games' Prequel Be About?
The dystopian universe of 'The Hunger Games' is slated to return to our screens in 2023.
Lionsgate is going to roll out its adaptation of Susan Collins' 'The Hunger Games ' prequel, 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes ', on November 17, 2023.
For many people who have not been meticulously following the Hunger Games book universe, the news about the prequel turned out to be a lightning bolt out of the blue. Indeed, the story of the cruel survival games seemed completed for good, if not too dragged.
Collins, however, wanted to explore the world she created a bit deeper, introducing her action novel 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' in 2020. The book is telling the story of young Coriolanus Snow, the future ruler of the Capitol and all of Panem, who is chosen to be a mentor of a District 12 girl set to take part in the 10th Hunger Games.
While the cast and characters of the upcoming movie have not been officially revealed – we only have a short teaser and a logo as of now – it would be reasonable to assume that the movie will feature young Snow and Lucy Gray Baird, the tribute who sang during the reaping.
Fans, however, seem to be preemptively skeptical about the upcoming prequel.
Others seem more welcoming, but they too have a lot to say about it, suggesting that a TV show would be a better take on 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' than a film adaptation.
Some people have already delved into fan-casting, pushing Timothee Chalamet as young President Snow.
Another interesting choice is Cody Fern.
The cast, however, is yet to be revealed. The only thing we know for sure about the upcoming movie is that it will be directed by Francis Lawrence, who helmed 'Catching Fire', and both parts of 'Mockingjay'.
