Get ready for some real spooks.

There are many fans of the horror genre who only enjoy horror when it is poorly made and when it makes them laugh. Those who are actually looking for the scariest plots and the adrenaline rush you can get from watching them are a minority, but there are some movies that would perfectly fit their expectations.

Although people tend to think that really good horror is rare these days, there are a few gems that have been released recently that don't get nearly enough attention. Barbarian, Zach Cregger's directorial debut, is definitely one of those movies that deserves a lot more buzz than it already got upon its release.

Is Barbarian Worth Watching?

Distributed by 20th Century Studios and scheduled for release in 2022, Barbarian has won the hearts of critics and has an excellent score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. So, if you're looking for a fresh horror that doesn't completely rely on jump scares, but has a lot more to offer, Barbarian is the right choice for you.

The movie follows the story of a woman who finds out that the rental house she reserved was accidentally double booked by a man, unaware of a dark secret within the dwelling. Starring Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long, the movie perfectly blends creepy sets with a suspenseful premise.

Barbarian was not only a critical success, but also a commercial one. With a modest budget of $4 to $5 million, it managed to gross $45 million at the bpx box office. It also received several nominations for Best Horror Film from the Portland Critics Association Awards, Critics Choice Super Awards, Golden Trailer Awards, and more.

Later, in 2023, it was announced that the movie was so impressive and did such a good job of immersing viewers in its dark universe that it will be getting a video game adaptation.

Not only that, but the master of the horror genre, Stephen King, had nothing but amazing words to say about the 2022 film. Answering a question on X (formerly known as Twitter), the author admitted that the movie was so ‘crazy good’ that it ‘blew him away’. If that doesn't make you want to check out Barbarian, we don't know what will.

If you're looking for a movie to get your adrenaline pumping and a fictional horror universe to escape reality, you can stream Barbarian on Amazon Prime Video.
