The 7 Most Wholesome Blue Bloods Episodes, Ranked by Reddit
The police procedural has a bit of everything – including some real touching moments.
Blue Bloods has been bringing us action, suspense, criminal investigations and family drama for 14 seasons. Here are the 7 most wholesome episodes of the show as discussed by Redditors:
7. Justifies the Means
Season 11, Episode 16
IMDb Score: 8.6/10
Joe's return to the Reagan family fold is a bittersweet moment. When Danny comes face to face with the nephew he thought had died, his shock is obvious. But he's a pro. Danny keeps it together, gets the job done, and then makes sure Joe is invited to the traditional family dinner at the end of the episode.
6. New Rules
Season 5, Episode 21
IMDb Score: 8.3/10
When Frank's friend Chief Kent is murdered, he finds himself a bit too close to the investigation. His decision to make the maverick Danny lead officer raises a few eyebrows. But Frank is adamant Danny is the best man for the job – even if he feels the need to make it absolutely clear everything is to be done by the book.
With the Warrior Kings intent on disrupting the investigation, Danny has his work cut out. Will Frank's faith in him be justified?
5. Blues
Season 9, Episode 15
IMDb Score: 8.2/10
Danny may not always be a stickler for the rules, but when he shoots a suspect while off duty, he finds himself questioning his own approach. The episode shows a different side to the detective that makes him a far more rounded character.
Elsewhere, Frank grapples with the fact that one of his officers has a dubious past and shows considerable leniency given his usual demeanour.
4. The Art of War
Season 5, Episode 22
IMDb Score: 8.7/10
Effectively the second part of the New Rules episode, this is the season finale.
After two gunshots and a fade to black at the end of the previous episode, this one begins with Linda being rushed into the operating room. It's a very personal case for the Reagans, requiring them to maintain their professionalism in the midst of a targeted attack on both them and their extended police family.
Danny and Frank are on top of their game, putting their emotions aside just enough to keep them spurred on without losing focus. It's dramatic, gripping, and gets you right in the feels.
3. My Brother's Keeper
Season 9, Episode 14
IMDb Score: 8.2/10
Ok, this may not be an overly emotional or wholesome episode altogether. But it does include the scene in which Danny and Jamie are scolded by their grandfather and told to act like brothers.
The two subsequently take a seat and discuss their relationship, with Jamie saying he feels Danny has always looked down on him and Danny acknowledging that his rough demeanour is the reason Jamie will eventually outrank him. In the end, both brothers relent enough to admit they're proud of the other. It's a powerful moment and makes this episode one that deserves its place on the list.
2. Family Secrets
Season 10, Episode 19
IMDb Score: 9/10
Arguably, the one episode that lays bare the obvious fact that the Reagan family is just like any other. Those family dinners can sometimes give off a bit too much of an idyllic feeling. But when Joe's secret son is revealed, it becomes obvious there are secrets in the family.
The family is naturally resistant to the newcomer. But that won't last.
1. My Aim Is True
Season 8, Episode 22
IMDb Score: 9.1/10
At the end of what has been a tough season for them, the Reagan family need a break just as much as the viewers.
Danny talking to Linda at her grave serves to show just what she meant to him as well as demonstrating that he has matured as a person and a character. While Danny is still feeling the loss of his wife, Jamie and Eddie open a new chapter in the history of Blue Bloods and the Reagans when they announce they're engaged. It's the ending the season needed.
