That Time Supernatural Created an Entire Season Just for Dick Jokes
Back in 2011, the creators of Supernatural made a call that many fans found questionable at best. That call was season 7 and the entire Leviathan arc that it blessed us with.
Remember when we were weeping because the Supernatural writers decided to focus on Leviathans and not because Supernatural was over, and we had nothing but dim hopes for its spin-off? Good old days…
We digress. The show's season 7 focuses on Sam and Dean dealing with Leviathans, the very first beasts created by God (Chuck, what part of you thought that the world needed these though?) – specifically, their leader Richard Roman, commonly referred to as Dick.
This is both hilarious and in character for him. Talk about charactonyms! In a fit of nostalgia, fans are remembering all the awesome puns we got because of Dick being Dick.
Some of the gems include "What makes Dick so hard to beat?" (that TV host actress is a real pro, we do not know how she said that without bursting into laughter), "If you dig down deep, it's all Dick" (here is a line one could use in any life situation, really), and "The boys need Cass to get Dick" (our personal favorite, no further comment here).
Many agree that the writers' main goal seemed to be "how many puns they could shove in an episode and get away with it."
It was hilarious, and, honestly, no one is mad about it! Well, maybe just the people who would have liked the show creators to add even more puns than they did. We can't really blame them!
Fans even say that they got confirmation at one of the Comic Cons that "the sole reason he [the character] was named Dick was for the purpose of these jokes."
We appreciate the dedickation!
Whatever the writers' true reasoning was, the end result came out great.
Hey, Robbie Thompson, if you decide to bring more of Supernatural to The Winchesters, here is a brand-new idea of who fans would be happy to see again – the rise of Dick from the dead would be a total banger!
