That Time Jim Carrey Avenged His Friend Cameron Diaz after She Was Forcibly Kissed on Stage
1995’s MTV Awards turned out horribly wrong when Cameron Diaz was forced to kiss a man on the stage despite her protests, but Jim Carrey rushed to help her out.
In 1995, the fourth-ever MTV Movie Awards took place and made history by introducing Quentin Tarantino ’s iconic Pulp Fiction to the world — but also by featuring an insanely humiliating and disgraceful act right there on the stage.
When Cameron Diaz was presenting the “Best Kiss” award, her co-host Chris Isaak saw that as a great opportunity to force himself on her in front of the audience. Diaz was shocked when Isaak started grabbing her waist and pulling her closer, trying to lean in for a kiss: she started struggling against him while continuing the speech.
Despite Cameron repeatedly backing away and shaking him off, Isaak kept on pushing, completely undeterred by his co-host’s obvious discomfort (to put it mildly). While he was doing that, Diaz managed to finish presenting the award and even make a few comments about Isaak clearly signaling for him to stop his advances.
“Come here, baby,” said the songwriter as he grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer again before standing in front of Cameron and forcibly kissing her on the lips. While he kept going at it, his co-host's face was clearly showing the shock and disgust she was feeling, and she kept struggling against Isaak until he pulled away finally.
“I knew you’d come around,” he taunted after letting Diaz free as if the situation was not already terrible and humiliating enough. Both the actress and the audience were frozen and didn’t know how to react — but that changed when Jim Carrey tuned in.
Ironically, it was Carrey who won the “Best Kiss” award that night, and he was already on his way to the stage when the act of violation happened.
Jim was good friends with Cameron, and he knew he had to do something — so he played for his apparent strong side since he was already coming to receive the “Best Kiss” award.
As he rushed onto the stage, Carrey hit Isaak with his lucky UNO reverse card — and forcibly kissed the songwriter himself! The actor made sure to hold the shocked man there for a few until he received the taste of his own medicine in full, and then finally let go of him. Isaak can be seen wiping off his mouth in terror on the footage.
Humiliation for humiliation is fair play, and Jim Carrey definitely should’ve gotten a second “Best Kiss” award that night: we hope his act made Diaz feel a bit better.
