That One Time When General Hospital Recast Was Actually Great
Sometimes it's just impossible to keep up with all the changes in a soap opera.
General Hospital holds the record for being one of the most popular American daytime soap operas and one of the longest-running shows. For 60 years, General Hospital has kept its fans on the edge of their seats with all the twists and turns the show has to offer.
One of the most typical things that a soap opera does is a huge number of recasts. You can only imagine how many times that has happened in 60 years. But frankly, it has not always worked out well for the show.
The most ardent fans almost always found something bad to say about new casting choices. From "she's too tall for her" to "why is he blond now,” it was almost impossible for a recast to be good for everyone. But it seems that a recent change in the show was actually a long-awaited one.
The character of Kristina is one of the most beloved ones in the show. But for many years fans thought that she is also one of the most underrated characters as well. Fans demanded more screen time for her and bigger storylines, and writers finally seemed to give in.
But as well as the new arc Kristina got a new look. With Lexi Ainsworth departing the show, the fans got Kate Mansi as Kristina. And they couldn’t have been happier.
“I’m really enjoying her version of the character. Don’t get me wrong, Lexi is terrific and I’m sad that she couldn’t continue in the role, but I think Kate has done a great job taking on the character”, Redditor zme94 said.
The new Kristina is already making a difference on the show as she is building an LGBTQ+ youth shelter with the help of her father, Sonny Corinthos. Let's see how that plays out.
