As we've held our breath gearing up for Season 3 of Ted Lasso there's one question which bugs most of us – will Ted finally turn from a pro motivational speaker into a true soccer coach? Or is being a good motivator enough for Ted and his boss Rebecca?

Season 1 was just the beginning, a prelude. One could forgive Ted's absolute helplessness as far as soccer rules were concerned – after all he has just switched from American football, which is a completely alien galaxy. Then in Season 2 we had a good laugh when Ted rushed to the linesman to ask "how's that offside?" But come on, it should stop!

It's no secret that the cast had to be physically fit to become fictional footballers. They really needed the athletic background to impersonate Ted Lasso 's squad while Dani Rojas who was brilliantly played by Cristo Fernandez was even a soccer pro – he played for Tecos in Mexico and later in the Puerto Rican first division. The team's characters are based on Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, David Beckham and Ronaldo. But what about Ted?

Jason Sudeikis' s Tribute to Olivia Wilde You Missed on Ted Lasso

In an interview with Sports Illustrated Jason Sudeikis said his character was partly inspired by Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool's head coach and Pep Guardiola of Manchester City.

"Man. When I heard about him taking his squad to go do karaoke, I was like, 'hellooooo, story idea…'"

But these outstanding managers are a little bit more than just karaoke-based team builders, Ted! The interview took place in 2020 and something, which worked perfectly for S1 or S2 but may not work for S3.

"I have a deep appreciation for it [sport] but a shallow understanding. But that's why I keep company with Brendan and Joe, who know their stuff," Sudeikis told the Sport Illustrated.

Maybe it's high time Ted revised his approach and made those of us who know a thing or two about soccer happy, with fans already saying that "Ted's failure to grasp even the basics of soccer is kind of annoying at this point." Or maybe his absolute ignorance and optimism is what we adore about Ted Lasso.

Ted Lasso season 3 is now set to premiere sometime in 2023.
