Team Jeffries: Alexandra Daddario Defends 'Percy Jackson' TV Show's Annabeth Casting

Alexandra Daddario – who is no stranger to being criticized for not being a book-accurate actress for the role of Annabeth Chase – weighed in on the ongoing debate around the casting of Leah Sava Jeffries in 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' TV series.
Daddario said she is confident that Jeffries is going to be "an incredible Annabeth" – around a week after the actress said on Twitter that she was "excited" for the upcoming Percy Jackson TV series.
Her statement has predictably ended up with Percy Jackson fans discussing the casting in the comments section – some of them still angered at the creators' reluctance to stick to the book description of the characters, and others defending the decision.
The whole thing about Percy Jackson fans traditionally taking issues with the Annabeth casting seems to have a name now.
A lot of people have risen up to speak against bullying that Leah Jeffries faced after being cast as Annabeth. Among them was Rick Riordan, the book series author, who accused those unhappy with the casting of racism – and while many people agreed that hating on a 12-year-old actress was not okay for whatever reason, Camp Half-Blood fans argued that their desire to have a book-accurate character in the series has nothing to do with racism.
'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' TV show begins production on June 1, scheduled to wrap up in January 2023 and then release later in the year. The titular role went to Walker Scobell, and Aryan Simhadri is playing one of Percy's friends, satyr Grover Underwood.
