Bernadette has nothing on her.

The Big Bang Theory was one of those shows that was never afraid to use some pretty rough jokes to get its audience. And it worked, as almost every single character of the sitcom showed some degree of cruelty to others at least once. However, some of them were much worse than others.

Fans tend to bash Bernadette for becoming the biggest bully of her friends in adulthood, or Sheldon for being too straightforward and shielding himself from consequences behind his genius, but the real main villain is often forgotten.

Every time Leonard's mother, Beverly, appeared on screen, viewers knew they were in for a wild ride and some top-notch roasts. Here are the 5 craziest.

“If you want to have intercourse with that girl, find out what kind of cologne her father wore.”

While this was legitimate advice about Penny from Beverly's point of view, it left many viewers feeling roasted themselves. What can we say, sometimes the truth hurts more than any joke the writers could come up with. The closer the roast hits home, the better and more realistic it is.

“Seems odd to try and impress your mother with your sexual prowess. But then, you always did have that unresolved Oedipal complex.”

If there is one character on The Big Bang Theory who would tell anyone the unvarnished truth to their face, it would have to be Beverly. The truth she tells about her own son, however, is one that is usually kept very private. It is no wonder that the relationship between the two of them does not really seem to work out.

“So, Howard, have you and Rajesh finally summoned the courage to express your latent homosexual feelings towards one another?”

Over the years, many fans have agreed that there is no better couple than Howard and Raj. Whether this was a joke or a real feeling for them is unknown, but Beverly Hofstadter definitely saw some tension between them, thanks to her very scientific psychological approach. The only thing missing was the manners.

“Leonard, please, not everything is about you.”

Another example of how out of touch Beverly is to think that her son wanted to be the center of attention. All Leonard has ever wanted was to have at least a modicum of respect and appreciation from his mother, but she has continued to take his side and push him away every single time.

“She doesn't have much in the way of career prospects, don't make her responsible for her own orgasms, as well.”

As a woman dating Leonard, Penny had to spend at least some time in his mother's presence, so she wasn't safe from her roasts either. Although Beverly didn't say anything untrue, since Penny's career struggles were a well-known issue to everyone around her, it must have stung a lot.
