TBBT’s Johnny Galecki Really Wished the Character Everybody Hated Would Stay Longer

For years that it has been tormenting its viewers with Penny and Leonard’s constant will-they-won’t-they situation, The Big Bang Theory was tricky enough to come up with a whole list of obstacles that the couple’s relationship had to overcome, but only one of those is still many fans’ worst nightmare.

The show once introduced a very controversial character to eventually become Leonard’s love interest after he broke up with Penny, and some are still relieved the whole thing was over. However, Leonard’s actor initially thought otherwise.

After making Penny and Leonard’s relationship even more complicated and forcing them to call it quits, The Big Bang Theory introduced Raj’s sister Priya in season 4.

The whole storyline was quick to confirm that Leonard and Priya had had a brief affair before, but, after encountering each other years later, they both agreed that they still had feelings for each other and eventually became a couple.

Priya’s entrance in the series as one of the recurring characters was supposed to serve as some kind of distraction for the viewers after Leonard decided that it was all over for him and Penny.

The characters ultimately took some big steps in their relationships, coming up with an idea to even try living together, but then Priya suddenly had to come back to India and things went in a completely wrong direction.

Fans were reasonably outraged after finding out that Priya had cheated on Leonard while staying in India and got relieved when she was gone from the entire series. But the character’s departure wasn’t happy news for everyone involved in the show.

As Leonard’s actor Johnny Galecki once revealed, he felt like his character had lost “sort of intellectual equivalent.” Apart from mentioning the fact that Priya was presumably a good match for Leonard since both of them were scientists, the actor also praised Priya’s actress Aarti Mann and her ability to become a perfect fit for the rest of the cast’s dynamics.

According to Galecki, Mann was initially supposed to appear in only one episode, but became a regular for some time later as “we just really loved Aarti [Mann], and her work ethic kind of melded with everybody else’s. And it makes sense as far as the characters.”

The actress didn’t stay long on the show though since her character was written off The Big Bang Theory after 12 episodes in total.

Priya’s eventual breakup with Leonard paved a way for the latter’s rekindled romance with Penny, which resulted in the couple getting married afterwards.
