TBBT Star Failed Spider-Man Audition Despite Having a Marvel Role Under Her Belt
Mayim Bialik was actually a Marvel superhero once – without you even noticing.
Summary:
- Mayim Bialik, the actress we all know as Amy from The Big Bang Theory, is actually a big fan of superheroes.
- She tried out for a part in a Spider-Man movie, but she didn't end up taking it.
- But Bialik did lend her voice to a hero in an animated Marvel project.
- A few of Balik's fellow stars from The Big Bang Theory have also done voice work for Marvel.
Mayim Bialik, the actress we all remember as Amy from The Big Bang Theory, is actually a big fan of superheroes. It's a bit surprising, considering her on-screen character Amy didn't quite get the comic book craze. But in real life, Bialik has a true love for all things superhero. In fact, she even tried out for a part in a Marvel movie.
Bialik's superhero passion goes beyond just a casual interest. She's a self-proclaimed fan of both Marvel and DC. In an interview with Insider, she openly talked about wanting to get in on the action of a superhero movie or TV show. And she actually tried.
Mayim Bialik Actually Gave a Shot at Auditioning for a Spider-Man Movie
Bialik shared that she tried out for a part in a Spider-Man movie, specifically to play a teacher. But she didn't spill the details on which Spider-Man flick it was — whether it was Sam Raimi 's trilogy, Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man, or the MCU 's trilogy.
Unfortunately, she didn't land the role. But Bialik remains optimistic about her superhero dreams. She believes that while she might be past the age of playing a young heroine, there's still a spot for her in the superhero world.
Who Did Bialik Play in the Marvel Universe?
While Bialik hasn't appeared in any live-action Marvel project, she did put her voice to work in a Marvel gig. She voiced a character called Lady Lightning in the 2014 animated movie, Stan Lee's Mighty 7.
It is one of his lesser-known but equally intriguing creations of Stan Lee, the legendary name behind many of Marvel's iconic superheroes. The movie, initially aired on the Hub Network, showcased Stan Lee's encounter with a group of aliens whom he trains to become superheroes.
The cartoon also featured other notable actors like Christian Slater, Armie Hammer, and Teri Hatcher.
Bialik also had a minor voice role in X2: Wolverine's Revenge, a 2003 video game based on Marvel comics.
But Bialik's Ventures Don’t End with Marvel
Bialik's association with the world of comics doesn't end with Marvel. In 2020, she collaborated with DC Comics to release Flash Facts, a collection of short stories designed for middle-grade readers (ages 8-12). It aimed to bridge the gap between comic book enjoyment and educational content.
The anthology includes works from various notable authors and illustrators in the comic book industry.
Mayim Bialik Isn’t the Only TBBT Star to Appear in Marvel Project
Just like how Mayim Bialik did voice work in a not-so-famous project for Marvel, two other actors from The Big Bang Theory also had similar roles.
Melissa Rauch, known for her role as Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz on TBBT, voiced a Marvel superhero, Hope Van Dyne, also known as The Wasp, in the Marvel's Ant-Man series of shorts.
Surprisingly, our beloved Sheldon Cooper, Jim Parsons, has also dabbled in the Marvel universe. And even more surprisingly, Jim Parsons lent his voice to the villain Nightmare in the animated cartoon The Super Hero Squad Show, primarily targeted at a younger audience.
