That was probably Sheldon Cooper’s most unhinged moment ever.

The Big Bang Theory has always been a hilarious mix of geeky awkwardness and some explicit aspects of human relationships that the lead characters weren’t that much used to, but only a few scenes of the entire show might have caught fans off guard.

Though the first one to start a relationship with someone out of their geeky world was Leonard when he got into a rocky romance with Penny, it was Sheldon and Amy that got all the attention from the viewers the moment they started seeing each other.

The Big Bang Theory saw their relationships progressing, eventually leading Amy and Sheldon to getting married, yet long before that the sitcom gave the couple a very controversial moment, which also turned out to be the most embarrassing moment for Jim Parsons – and the most memorable for everyone else.

The Big Bang Theory’s season 6 episode 10 titled The Fish Guts Displacement sees Sheldon and Amy getting to a new level of (weird) intimacy when the former decides to punish his girlfriend for lying to him about her sickness and thus spanks her.

The scene was quick to become numerous fans’ favorite since Sheldon appears to be pretty serious (which becomes obvious when you look at his face) while Amy sees such kind of punishment as an intimate moment with her boyfriend who usually stayed away from any physical proximity.

During one of multiple interviews with the show’s entire lead cast, the iconic scene was brought up and Sheldon’s actor Jim Parsons couldn’t help revealing that filming that sequence in front of the live audience was one of the most shameful moments in his career, though he did admit that he had found it “tremendously amusing.”

The Big Bang Theory’s creators who were also in attendance at the interview confirmed that the scene had gone viral just because it’d been hard even for Parsons and Amy’s actress Mayim Bialik to realize that they were actually doing such a thing, yet “they were so funny together. And the audience went nuts”.
