There is someone even more cringey than Sheldon.

Summary

  • Sheldon is considered one of the most problematic characters on TBBT because of his selfish and inappropriate behavior.
  • But far from being the most unlikable character, according to Redditors.
  • There is one character who has repeatedly ruined the atmosphere of the show.

Over the course of The Big Bang Theory 's unbelievable 12-year run, we've all formed our own preferences. For example, some fans consider the episode 'The Roommate Transmogrification' to be one of the best, while others consider it to be one of the worst. Some think Leonard and Penny should not have stayed together, while others are happy with the way things ended in the series finale. Some people love certain characters, and some people, frankly, hate them.

So many men, so many opinions, and we would continue to adhere to such relativism, but there is one common consensus in the context of the show's plot. It concerns a universally criticized member of the main cast who, for all his virtues, blew many situations, was constantly whining and overly intrusive. And no, dear TBBT fans, we're not talking about Sheldon at all!

Why This Character is Considered the Worst

This may come as a surprise to many, but a large number of Redditors named their least favorite character the one who caused no small amount of resentment and awkward situations, Leonard Hofstadter.

Like all humans, he has enough good and bad qualities to make him complex. And yet, The Big Bang Theory doesn't have to be extremely realistic. First, it's a sitcom. Second, it is a lighthearted story about everyday hijinks, friendship and, of course, love. And it is under these conditions that Leonard is completely devoid of mood, as he has repeatedly caused outrage among the audience with his dubious actions.

Of course, we should start with his relationship with Penny. The first question is whether he respected her as a person at all. Penny, of course, also has her flaws, and at first, she despised his nerdy hobbies. But as she got to know Leonard, she became more open to new things and spent time studying his passions, from comic books and video games to D&D and cosplay.

What did Leonard do for Penny in return? Did he take an interest in her hobbies and her aspirations to be an actress? Unfortunately, he was always too self-absorbed, and even Sheldon sometimes showed far more empathy for her.

His Actions Were Problematic

Unfortunately, Leonard was often so pathetic that his actions were not only controversial, but made viewers roll their eyes every time. Take, for example, the Season 3 episode 'The Wheaton Recurrence,' when he and Penny argued over the words "I love you. Yes, Penny was acting pretty weird back then, too, like asking Wil Wheaton for advice on whether or not to break up with Leonard. But it was the latter who acted inappropriately during their conflict, trying to get those three precious words out of her when she wasn't ready.

But according to fans, nothing compares to the Season 4 episode 'The Boyfriend Complexity,' when Leonard, who had already broken up with Penny, pretended to be her boyfriend during her father's visit. Without any consent, he forced Penny to kiss him and say 'I love you.' He did what seems to be the most manipulative, uncomfortable, problematic and cringe-worthy act in the history of the show.

And yet Sheldon is no better

All right, we're being a bit harsh on Leonard! Sure, he was too infantile at times, but it was Sheldon that many redditors named as one of the most annoying characters. Leonard doesn't compare to how arrogant Sheldon was and how he constantly belittled others. Think back to the episode 'The Marriage Equilibrium,' when he not only made misogynistic jokes about Amy, but basically tried to ruin everyone's mood and prevent them from watching Leonard and Penny's wedding ceremony.
