TBBT Penny’s Finale Plot Twist Now Looks Even Worse Compared to Another Underrated Character
They handled the same situation in radically different ways, and that's bad news only for Penny.
The Big Bang Theory may have pretended to give a happy ending-coded closure to all of its lead characters, but the real happy ending was never meant to come in Penny’s way after all.
The character’s personal goals and wishes were completely snubbed by the show’s creators who made everything possible to deprive Penny of her biggest dream to become a prominent actress and, on top of that, did everything against her will once again when she revealed her pregnancy in the series’s finale.
Still, Penny wasn’t the only female character with a disheartening storyline, yet she was the only one who never got a resolution for a big issue that came in her way.
For a long time before The Big Bang Theory’s final episode came around, Penny has been vocal about not wanting to ever have kids. Though Leonard initially met such a revelation with an outburst of anger and desperation, the couple eventually reconciled having decided that Penny would opt for her thriving career as a sales rep instead of staying at home with children.
However, tables turned radically for Penny when the show’s finale revealed that she was pregnant, also proving that the character was seemingly just fine with the fact that her plan had been thwarted.
For many fans, such a plot twist came as yet another proof that The Big Bang Theory’s creators had never really cared about Penny’s ambitions and personal wishes, and that has seemingly been confirmed by another female character’s altered storyline.
Just like her bestie Penny, Howard’s wife Bernadette repeatedly stated that she wouldn’t like to become a mother since she spent her younger years helping her parents by taking care of her siblings and also working at her parents’ daycare that Bernadette’s mother used to run.
The show completely ignored the character’s desire once again making Bernadette end up with two kids, yet instead it gave her a major advantage over Penny by letting Bernadette sit Howard down and have a talk with him regarding their common responsibilities for their children.
Bernadette’s issue was later on successfully resolved since she was able to go back to work while Howard was the one to look after their kids, something that Penny eventually never got, at least within The Big Bang Theory’s run.
The show’s further season could’ve explored this matter if The Big Bang Theory hadn’t been canceled after 12 seasons back in 2019, but now the only thing left for the fans is to wonder whether Penny indeed was happy after becoming a mother, just like Bernadette when her reluctance towards having kids turned out just fine for her too.
