If there's one show that perfectly portrays all the ups, downs, lows, and highs of young adult friendship, it's The Big Bang Theory. Even though all the characters are friends with each other and probably consider each other to be the closest people ever, there is still a lot of rivalry between them. Almost like siblings, you might say.
What makes it funny is that even grown-ups can sometimes be very petty with each other. It's not the most pleasant sight, that's for sure, but it's also very close to reality. There isn't a group of friends that wouldn't appreciate a good fight or a prank from time to time.
Back when the TikTok trend of going to parties dressed as each other didn't exist, and people all over the world weren't participating in it, making harmless fun of each other's quirks and personal style flaws, The Big Bang Theory released an episode that might as well have been the beginning of it all.
The events of the episode The Imitation Perturbation (S12E6) take place on Halloween when Howard decides to dress up as Sheldon and the latter takes full advantage of the situation. The audience might even feel sorry for him if Howard's impersonation wasn't so spot-on, and Sheldon wasn't so oblivious to the whole thing for far too long.
Howard Was Right, And Sheldon Wasn’t
One of the worst things you can do to Sheldon is point out that he's wrong in some way. If you point out the error in his calculations, he will probably find some way to excuse his genius. And if you point out the flaw in his whole behavior... well, as we have all learned, he tends to become even more insufferable than he already was.
While the audience and the actors on the set did their best to catch their breath from laughing as Simon Helberg, dressed as Howard Wolowitz, dressed as Sheldon Cooper, did his perfect impersonation, Sheldon was having none of it. If anything, he was offended by the flaws he now saw in himself, as if Howard were his mirror.
Of course, if this was really the intervention, and Sheldon's friends were trying to show him that they were unhappy with him in some way, the parody would be one of the crueler methods. However, since Howard had no malicious intentions, and his Halloween costume was more of a funny inside joke, there was nothing wrong with it.
At least that is what The Big Bang Theory fandom wants to believe. After all, someone being so easily recognizable by a tone of voice and signature look should just be a testament to their strong remarkable personality.
If you want to go ahead and remind yourself of the joy that this dress-up episode was, you can go ahead and stream it on Max.
