The character’s talent for songwriting could have been easily explained.

Having had an impressive run of more than a decade, The Big Bang Theory had enough time to dive deeper into its characters’ stories, going way further than just focusing on their career twists and turns and relationships with each other.

The show gradually paved the way for all the leads’ family members to enter the scene at some point, letting the viewers have a sneak peek into the past life of each of them.

Still, many fans may remember a very controversial storyline directly connected to the whole matter, claiming that Howard Wolowitz was surely the only one to be deprived of a detailed childhood background, especially since both of his parents’ personalities were mostly shrouded in mystery.

Ironically, The Big Bang Theory almost resolved at least part of this problem once, but the idea was still ditched due to a potential actor’s refusal.

Compared to Sheldon, Raj and even Leonard, Howard was the unluckiest group member when it came to his earlier years as a child and teenager. The character repeatedly stated that he’d been brought up by his mother after his father left the family when Howard was 11 years old.

Since then, his father has never made a single attempt to ever communicate with his estranged son, which eventually had a major impact on Howard’s life and mostly his decision to be a much better example for his own children.

Howard’s father eventually never showed up in the series, and even his mother remains a big mystery for The Big Bang Theory fandom. However, the character’s biggest issue was once intended to give a proper explanation to Howard’s sweet talent, but there was simply no one to take on the role.

As The Big Bang Theory writers once revealed, they had an idea of finally introducing Howard’s father to the show, and the role was just perfect for the Beatles ’ drummer Ringo Starr, considering how much he and Howard’s actor Simon Helberg looked alike.

However, Starr eventually didn’t get seduced by the opportunity to appear as a guest star on a popular sitcom and declined the offer, leaving the writers with no other candidacies for the role which later on was scrapped.

Starr’s reluctance to show up in The Big Bang Theory is a double disappointment for the show’s fans since the musician was supposed to play himself, making it clear that Howard’s father was probably the reason why his son was so good at music.

In the sitcom’s season 7 episode 6, titled The Romance Resonance, Howard is seen trying to cheer up his then girlfriend Bernadette by singing her a surprise romantic song that he composed himself.

The show thus missed a unique opportunity to give the song a much more profound meaning by explaining that Howard’s love for music was one of few things he would be grateful to his estranged father for.
