Thankfully, producers have something else for the fans to be excited about.

The news of Taylor Kinney's abrupt temporary departure from Chicago Fire broke a few months ago.

His character, Lt. Kelly Severide, was cleverly written out of the storyline for the remainder of the season, and his future appearances were all marked with the question.

Without any explanation from the show's crew or the actor himself, it was not easy to guess the timing of his comeback.

However, many were hoping to at least catch a glimpse of him in a big season 11 finale.

Since everyone usually comes together, and since the show usually ties up all of the season's storylines at the very end, it would only be fair to tease viewers with Severide's appearance.

Even if it is brief, it would definitely give people a sense of relief. After all, no one really knows what happened to Kinney and why he left.

Whatever it might be, it still has a pretty strong effect, since the actor wouldn't be in the final episode for even a few seconds.

But don't be too disappointed! One comeback that you might have wanted to see actually happens, as Jesse Spencer joins the episode as a guest star to reprise his role as Matt Casey.

Although his appearances won't be regular, they will definitely help sweeten the pot and make the episode more exciting for fans.

The showrunners may not have the best of situations to deal with, but you have to give them props for making the best of it.

Besides, Jesse Spencer, who left Chicago Fire in the 200th episode, has never been against the idea of coming back himself whenever the plot calls for it.

"I always told Derek Haas that if there were episodes that he thought would be appropriate for me to come back, then I'm totally open to that because I want to see the old gang and I love working there," the actor told Deadline.

Hopefully, this time spent away from the filming set allows Kinney to deal with his personal matters and join the cast back for the shooting of season 12.

Until then, you can tune in to NBC on Wednesdays to see where the ending of season 11 takes the characters.
