Fans have been speculating about the film for nearly two decades, but The Movie Critic's announcement has put it in jeopardy.

The third Kill Bill movie has been rumored ever since Volume 2 was released almost two decades ago in 2004, and the official announcement seemed to be right around the corner, so much so that the movie even got an IMDb page.

However, as time went on, the chances of the film ever making it to the big screen became slimmer and slimmer, and when Quentin Tarantino announced that his last movie would be The Movie Critic, the fate of Kill Bill: Volume 3 was up in the air until now.

In a recent interview with DeMorgen, the filmmaker finally set the record straight and put an end to fans' hopes and speculation: the third Kill Bill will not be released.

"I don't see that happening. My last film is about a film critic, a male critic. And he plays in the '70s," he said.

Fans have mixed feelings about this sudden turn of events, as many of them considered the third film to be a done deal, since Tarantino himself had hinted at the possible story, such as picking up 20 years after Vol. 2 and following Vernita Green's now-grown daughter on a quest for revenge.

He also once stated that he found the idea of Uma Thurman's real-life daughter, Maya Hawke, playing her on-screen counterpart quite exciting. Nevertheless, it seems that all his ideas are pointless now.

Others, however, see it as good news, as such "legacy sequels" that come out decades after the release of the originals are not always great, and considering that Kill Bill: Volume 2 ended on a strong and satisfying note, it would have only hurt it.

However, there might still be a chance for it to come out without Tarantino directing, as he could simply write the story and give it to, say, Robert Rodriguez, with whom Quentin has already worked. But in this case it is highly questionable if the fans would want it at this point.

The release date for the director's last film, The Movie Critic, has not yet been announced.
