Taika Waititi Commands 'Star Wars' Return From Hiatus, But Are Fans Happy?
Waititi is famous for his own authentic directing style. Marvel's Thor fans seem to like it, but when it comes to Star Wars fans, one can never be sure about what to expect.
'Star Wars ' returns to the movie theaters for the first time since 'Rise of Skywalker' with a yet-to-be-named film by Taika Waititi, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed during Star Wars Celebration.
Speaking to Total Film, Kennedy revealed that the mysterious movie is scheduled to release in 2023, but the studio hasn't "locked anything in".
"We need to create a whole new saga. That takes a lot. There's a lot of conversation around that," she added.
Debates about the future of the Star Wars franchise are indeed ongoing, particularly within the fan community, with some people excited about what Waititi will have to bring to the universe, and others not so much.
Those not fond of the fact that Waititi joins the franchise point at how he makes things way too comedy-like.
Some people have already wondered whether Waititi will stick to his principles and cast himself in the movie.
Still, little is known about the Waititi-directed movie that is due to break the 'Star Wars' theatrical hiatus that lasted about three years. The New Zealand-born director is no stranger to the franchise, as he has already directed the first season finale of 'The Mandalorian '. We do know, however, that the script for Waititi's movie was co-written with '1917's screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
