Sylvester Stallone Names The Perfect Successor To His Rambo Role
The actor believes that Ryan Gosling would be a great choice due to his deep fascination with the character.
Summary:
- John Rambo remains one of the most iconic characters in Sylvester Stallone's already impressive acting career
- However, it is unclear whether the actor will ever reprise the role or retire from it soon
- Either way, Stallone already knows who he might pass the torch to, naming Ryan Gosling as his top choice
Throughout his long and fruitful acting career, which at this point spans over five decades, Sylvester Stallone has portrayed an enormous amount of characters in all sorts of iconic films.
However, few of them, with perhaps the sole exception of Rocky Balboa from the Rocky and Creed film series, have managed to at least come close to John Rambo from the franchise of the same name in terms of being absolutely legendary.
While many fans rightly point out that the original 1982 film, First Blood, is perhaps the best of the five installments released to date, there is no denying the impact the franchise has had on popular culture.
It May Be Time For Stallone To Retire From The Role
However, it's been five years since 2019's Rambo: Last Blood, which proved to be quite underwhelming, and the actor is already 77 years old, so the future of the franchise is quite murky, even though Stallone hasn't officially retired from the role.
Considering that some of the iconic 80's action films are getting remakes, like the upcoming Road House starring Jake Gyllenhaal and based on the 1989 film of the same name, it is quite possible that Rambo will one day meet the same fate.
But if that should happen, the actor already has the perfect candidate in mind to pick up the torch of portraying the legendary action hero, which Stallone recently revealed during his appearance on The Tonight Show.
The actor believes that none other than Ryan Gosling would be a perfect choice to play the new iteration of John Rambo, despite the fact that he and Stallone look almost nothing alike.
Gosling Is Absolutely Fascinated By The Character
Apparently, the two had already met over dinner, where Gosling enthusiastically expressed his fascination with the character he has been obsessed with since his school days.
Such passion intrigued Stallone, who made it clear that if he decided to pass on the role, Gosling would be the prime candidate, even though he might be "too good-looking to be Rambo.
Fans point out that Ryan may not be intimidating enough to play the role convincingly, even though the actor sometimes stars in action movies.
Speaking of action, Ryan Gosling's next big screen appearance will be in the action comedy The Fall Guy, scheduled for release on May 3, 2024.
