She was a breath of fresh air.

Summary:

  • Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is an NBC procedural drama that has been on the air since 1999.
  • Besides the main character, Olivia Benson, the show has welcomed many new characters, as well as departed many cast members.
  • Fans believe that since the departure of Katriona Tamin, the show has failed to find a worthy replacement.

Although there are still many people who find a lot of enjoyment in the Law & Order franchise, the vast majority of fans believe that both the original show and its longest spin-off, Special Victims Unit, must come to an end sooner rather than later.

There are many reasons why fans turn their backs on once beloved shows, but most of them fall into the same category. The story is getting old and the characters seem to be getting stale. If Law & Order was recently revived with a bunch of new people, SVU continues to follow Olivia Benson and her team.

And as popular as Olivia Benson is and always will be, there is only so much that can be said about her without becoming repetitive. The only supporting character who even had a chance to be as entertaining didn't even make it for three seasons.

What Happened to Kat on SVU?

Introduced in season 21 of the show, Katriona Tamin entered the Law & Order universe as a passionate, proactive and opinionated detective with the Special Victims Unit. Young and dedicated to her job, she took each case very emotionally, often striving to serve the victim rather than legal justice.

This approach put her at odds with Olivia Benson, creating a very interesting conflict of generations and strong personalities. Kat was able to stand up to Benson, making her the first (and sadly the last) rookie to even reach the level of the show's main star.

As expected for a character like that, she was hated while her seasons were on the air, but greatly missed once viewers realized there wouldn't be anyone else to replace her powerful presence. What's even more upsetting is that the decision to leave Special Victim's Unit was not made by the actress who portrayed Tamin.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm Kat's departure from the squad room. The decision was made above my pay grade, and wouldn't have been my choice, but hey -- that's show biz for ya,” Jamie Gray Hyder stated in her Instagram stories.

NBC did not state the reason for parting ways with the actress. Within the show, her character decided to take a break from work in law enforcement after suffering a traumatic shooting and almost losing her life in it. To this day, man fans hope to see Kat back or get someone with the same level of passion and energy to bring a new dynamic to the show.

If you think SVU can still be saved, you can tune in every Thursday for season 25 on NBC and never miss an episode.
