SVU: The Little Thing That Made Fans (And Olivia) Hate Cassidy
This may have been a reason why Cassidy and Olivia never worked out romantically, some fans believe.
Law and Order: SVU once had Detective Olivia Benson enjoy a drunken one-night stand with her co-worker, Brian Cassidy, which could have developed into a relationship, but never did — for a reason.
First of all, Olivia was clearly not okay with her breaking one of her ground rules: never sleep with your coworkers. Second, fans believe there was one particular moment that turned her off, which happened in season 15, episode 15, titled Comic Perversion.
The episode was filled with controversial jokes made by comedian Josh Galloway, who apparently thought rape was a fun subject to mock. Rape jokes disgusted just about every character except Cassidy, who was later revealed to have Galloway as his favorite comedian.
Some fans did not need an additional reason to hate Cassidy, but apparently they got it.
"Knowing that Cassidy thought this misogynistic jackass was funny made me sick to my stomach. I've hated him so much more because of that," Redditor Arkady2009 said.
However, it's not about Cassidy's lack of disgust over rape jokes.
"I never understood what Liv saw in him. He seems like a dodo bird who doesn't know what year he is in. I imagine in his free time he puts on a patrol uniforms and humps at bars," Redditor Important_Task987 said.
Cassidy has never worked for fans even as a comic relief character, let alone as a potential boo for Olivia. Currently, Cassidy is better off out of the picture, as the fandom is on edge over the show playing with everyone's hearts when it comes to the romantic tension between Olivia and Detective Elliot Stabler.
Law and Order: SVU is currently in its 24th season, with the next episode airing on February 16.
