SVU Fans Can’t Make Their Minds Up On Noah Porter-Benson And His Controversial Arc
Enough time has passed to say, it wasn’t heartwarming. Just cringy.
It's hard to believe that on a show that focuses on cases of sexual assault, harassment, and other types of sex crimes, the most controversial character in the fandom is actually a child. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit tends to draw the line perfectly between good and evil, but Noah, Olivia Benson's son, is in a whole different category.
Don't get us wrong, the boy has done nothing wrong. In fact, many fans like the idea of seeing Benson's softer side as much as they like seeing her parenting. It's the execution of that idea that leaves many viewers with raised eyebrows.
In general, fans don't think the writers care too much about Noah's character. His storylines, while cute, don't always feel well thought out and on par with the rest of the show.
Also, not all viewers are in favor of the actor that the casting director chose to play Noah, feeling that there could be a more suitable candidate.
One of the most memorable storylines for viewers over the years of Noah's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit appearances was his coming out as bisexual during a simple late-night walk. While many enjoyed the interaction and praised Olivia's reaction (or lack thereof), some felt it wasn't genuine.
Noah's sexuality comes out of nowhere, and as supportive as the fandom is of the message it sends and the representation it gives to younger bisexual people, the coming out scene doesn't feel real. While some people say that not making a big deal out of it was the best decision SVU could have made, others can't help but cringe.
