Surprising Similarities Between Barry And Breaking Bad You Didn't Notice
Being inspired by Breaking Bad seems like a good explanation of Barry’s success.
If you're a fan of both Barry and Breaking Bad, you could have noticed or missed some striking similarities between the two shows. From character traits to plot developments, there are intriguing connections that may surprise you.
Thanks to a YouTube channel Better Watch TV, we are about to take a closer look at these unexpected parallels that link these two captivating series.
Let's start with the main characters, Walter White and Barry Berkman. Both of them are anti-heroes leading double lives, capable of committing cold-blooded murders when pushed to the edge. Also, their initials consist of only one letter — WW and BB.
Another interesting similarity is how both Walter and Barry switch between different names. Walter adopts the alias Heisenberg, while Barry goes by the name Barry Block. And let's not forget about Saul Goodman, who adds to this trend of identity swapping.
Moving on to the antagonists, we find another intriguing connection. Both shows feature two prominent bad guys — Gus and Hank. Surprisingly, Gus and Hank share some remarkable similarities.
Both characters are gay and experience the tragic loss of their partners, which leads them to create memorials honoring their loved ones. Additionally, the names of their businesses also reflect their connection with the partners, — Los Pollos Hermanos and NoHoBal.
But the similarities don't stop there. Breaking Bad's Mike and Barry's Fuches also share common ground. Both characters are experienced handlers who sometimes work together with the protagonists, and other times they find themselves at odds with each other.
And what about the roles of Hank from Breaking Bad and Jim from Barry? Both are basically playing the same “officer on the trail” role.
The plots of the shows start in a similar but reversed way. Breaking Bad starts with Walter stepping into the crime world and even gets a man killed by the end of the pilot episode.
Meanwhile, Barry starts with the protagonist killing a person, he gets the idea to start a normal life as an actor. Both pilots conclude with characters accepting their new lives with sirens in the background.
Next time you find yourself rewatching either Barry or Breaking Bad, keep an eye out for these surprising similarities that make the shows even more fascinating.
