Supernatural's Biggest Mistake With Dean Winchester? Not Making Him a Villain in S10
Fans would pay a lot to see Dean in his full-on villain era.
Summary:
- Supernatural was The CW's hit series that followed the Winchester brothers on their journey to fight demons.
- Throughout the series, both brothers fought side by side, except for the moments when they were possessed by demons.
- However, fans believe the show missed an opportunity for a twist in season 10 when Dean could have become the main villain.
If there's one storyline that the writers of Supernatural have successfully carried from the beginning to the end of the show, it's the brotherly bond between Dean and Sam. There have been many situations where their affection for each other has had terrible consequences, but the brothers have continued to choose each other.
While that's great, and the show wouldn't be the same if brotherly love and family ties weren't put on a pedestal, fans were a little disappointed not to see Dean's villainous arc when the opportunity presented itself perfectly.
While the show has teased the darker side of both brothers here and there through short-lived possessions, there was nothing quite like the possibility of the demonic Dean being the main antagonist of season 10.
Dean Winchester and the Mark of Cain
Dean receiving the Mark of Cain in season 9 was one of the most interesting plot twists that could have taken the character in different directions.
While the canonical demon Dean spends most of season 10 in the bunker while Sam and Cas try to heal him until he becomes human again and then kills Cain, it could have been very different if the show had taken a different path.
Demon Dean showed enough power and sass to be the season's villain without Rowena's intervention. Had Sam been less successful in his search for Dean and his method of capturing him to cure him, Demon Dean could have easily carried the whole season on his back, providing just as much horror and mayhem.
While Rowena’s character was an interesting one to explore, many fans wish the show wouldn’t be as scared as showing Dean in his most ruthless form and focused on him more, rather than setting him aside. Still, even those bits that the viewers did get, were enough for Demon Dean to become a very much beloved alter-ego to his character.
