He could never settle down.

Summary:

  • Supernatural was The CW horror mystery show that followed two brothers on their quest to fight demons.
  • The older brother, Dean, dies at the end of season 15, leaving his younger brother to live the quiet life he's always dreamed of.
  • However, fans believe that Dean's most tragic story line happened years earlier, during season 6.

Throughout the 15 years that Supernatural has been on the air, fans have been able to develop true brotherly feelings for each of the main characters. Despite all the hardships they faced along the way, Sam and Dean Winchester remained true to themselves, their dreams and their goals.

The road to the finale has not been easy, but the audience is still grateful for every minute of this adventure.

From the very beginning, Sam and Dean were presented as polar opposites: the brothers belonged to different generations and wanted different things in life. Sam wanted to get an education, build a career, and settle down. Dean valued freedom above all else.

But looking back at season six, he was willing to trade it for something more valuable. The loss of Lisa and Ben was and remains one of the most tragic arcs in the character's history.

Was Dean In Love With Lisa?

Throughout the seasons of Supernatural, there were a number of women that Dean Winchester was romantically interested in, but Lisa Braeden was the one that he lived with and was willing to play family with for as long as it took to protect her and her son, Ben.

While some people believe that his feelings for Lisa played a role in the way he treated her family, most agree that it was Ben who influenced him the most. Even though Lisa kept telling him that Ben wasn't Dean's biological son, he saw himself in the child, which only intensified the attachment.

Deep down, still traumatized by the way he was treated by his father and the way both of their parents put them in great danger, Dean knew that the hunter's lifestyle didn't fit with any kind of family life. That is why he was so angry when Ben showed interest in joining him and learning to protect the family as well.

After all that Lisa and Ben had been through, Dean knew that staying in their lives would only put them in more danger, so he did what he probably wished his own father had enough kindness and resources to do. He asked Castiel to erase all memories of him from Lisa's and Ben's minds.

This was the one instance where Dean was willing to sacrifice his freedom for something more, but the demons weren't willing to let him go. Since then, it was almost obvious that there would never be a reality where he could just settle down. His path has always led him to the very finale that we've seen.
