Suits Star Gives a Shout-out to Meghan Markle, Explains the Show's Resurgence in Popularity
As Suits is suddenly immensely popular all over again, Patrick J. Adams took it upon himself to explain this phenomenon in the funniest (and humblest) way possible.
Four years have passed since Suits officially ended, and now, in 2023, the show made a sudden comeback: in their millions, people are religiously rewatching the series on Netflix and Hulu, Suits is back on all platforms’ charts, and there’s admittedly next to no explanation for why it even happened out of the blue.
While everyone has their own theory, the creator of Suits believes that the audience just craves simpler and happier times.
Suits ended just before COVID struck, and the show’s lighthearted nature and positive vibe help the viewers relive those days when everything was easier and less dramatic than it’s been since 2020. That’s one version.
Others suggest that the resurgence in Suits’ popularity is thanks to Meghan Markle, the lead actress in the show, being the wife of Prince Harry. This sentiment is not only common among the audience, though, as even the lead actor of Suits, Patrick J. Adams, admittedly shares it. The actor took a pretty funny approach to explaining it.
Adams wrote it right in his Instagram bio, of all places.
“Patrick J. Adams: the guy from that show you're watching on that app because that girl married that prince,” the witty line reads.
So it’s pretty obvious that, like many others, Adams believes that it’s his co-star Meghan Markle’s personal life that reinvigorated the interest in Suits.
While it’s a viable opinion, we can’t help but notice that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been married for several years now, and that is no sensational news.
It’s unlikely that millions of people just suddenly went, “Oh wait, remember the girl who married into the royal family? Gotta rewatch that show with her right now!”
So perhaps, it was a combination of factors that caused Suits to launch into the second round of popularity. With all due respect to Patrick J. Adams, we can’t believe that it was just the fact that Meghan Markle stars in it that brought the series back to the pedestal.
