With the new wave of popularity comes the new wave of criticism.

Suits is a legal drama that premiered on the USA Network in 2011 and ran until 2019. It lasted for 9 seasons and was then canceled. When the show was on the air, it had a massive following, although it seems that the series' true success began a few months ago when Netflix started streaming it.

It was revealed that Suits became the most watched show this summer, so now almost everyone is discussing it and is obsessed with the characters – and no wonder why.

Harvey, Mike and probably Luis are the main male characters of the show. But there are also several strong female characters that are worth mentioning. We got Jessica, we got Rachel, and, of course Donna, the heart of the show.

In season 1, Donna was more of a side character, but Sarah Rafferty's brilliant performance made fans fall in love with her, so the writers decided to bless her with more spotlight. But even after that, fans felt that the showrunners never fully understood her potential.

“Donna was never a priority for the writers and the few times they did, it was a letdown. Yet, thanks to Sarah, Donna still has fans apparently. Any talented actor would deserve better material after 9 years of playing that role,” Redditor Savings_Comfort_7441 said.

What's more, instead of giving Donna important storylines that actually fit her character, they gave her probably the most cringeworthy storylines for no reason at all.

Yes, we are talking about the infamous season 6 episode 3 moment when the writers wanted to show their support for black people but ended up throwing shade on the entire community, as well as their best female character.

It was the scene where Donna, Jessica and Gretchen were together in the executive kitchen and ended up talking about their past and everything. And at one point Donna says “I’m black on the inside”... That single moment made fans cringe so much that they actually gave up on Donna’s character.

“After that scene I was annoyed every time she was on screen - she was one of the best characters up until that time too. The writers just ran out of stuff to do with her and gave her ridiculous promotions that were in no way realistic, and made Gretchen tell us Donna is “black all over”,” Redditor Sss00099 said.

It's strange that this moment didn't actually cause more of a stir on the internet, but that's probably because it happened in 2016. But would a moment like that fly these days? We doubt that 2023 allows something like that.
