Suits: New Show Officially in the Works Amid Original's Popularity Resurgence

One of the past decade's most successful long-running TV shows, Suits had quite a successful eight-year-long run and ended in 2019. Created by Aaron Korsh, this drama series followed one of New York’s top-notch legal firms and specifically, the star closer Harvey Specter and his protégé Mike Ross, a trickster with an exceptional memory.
After concluding just before the COVID-19 pandemic, the show saw a huge resurgence in popularity during the quarantine and then another one recently. This unexpected comeback made the creators of Suits eye the possibility of the series’s revival — and now, judging by the news we’re receiving, they decided to follow through with it.
According to Deadline, NBCUniversal is going through with a brand-new Suits show that would likely be directed by Aaron Korsh, the creator of the original series. The new show is not going to be a sequel or a reboot but rather a standalone story set in the same world — and, most likely, also dedicated to the legal dramas of the USA.
Previously, Suits already had a spin-off show Pearson dedicated to Gina Torres' Jessica Pearson, which, despite being positively received, was quite short-lived. However, the overwhelming success of the original series since its release on Netflix inspired the creators to try their luck one more time and make a full-blown show.
Per Deadline, the final deal is still being discussed, but Aaron Korsh and his team are already working on the project and, according to the report, there is no room for backing off. The final negotiations are dealing with the exact terms while the new Suits show itself has already been greenlit.
While new versions and continuations of successful shows can often prove risky, if the recent resurgence in Suits’ popularity is anything to go by, we have a good feeling about the new series. The project is in its early stages currently, but since it seems to be fully backed by NBCUniversal, there’s almost no doubt that we’ll see it pretty soon.
