Season 5. Chapter 1. Scene 1.
Recently, the official Stranger Things Writers' Room Account on X (formerly Twitter) shared the very beginning of the Season 5 script. It only consists of sixteen words and decisively doesn’t reveal any names or plot points; just the first few seconds of the first episode. This, however, was more than enough to get fans excited.
“DARKNESS. The sound of COLD WIND. GROANING TREES. And… A CHILD’S VOICE. Singing a familiar song,” the Season 5 Chapter 1 Scene 1 beginning reads.
Despite lacking context, Stranger Things fans followed the implications of this tiny scene and realized who would be in this scene and what song was mentioned.
What Does This Scene Mean for Season 5?
The scene obviously brings up the flashbacks of Season 1 Episode 7: a little boy lying down, singing the most famous Stranger Things song, “Should I Stay or Should I Go…” Brings back the memories, doesn’t it? The favorite song of the Byers brothers, it means the world to fans and characters alike — but there’s more.
Many fans saw the confirmation of the popular Stranger Things theory in this scene. Some claim that Vecna was behind Will’s abduction from the beginning, sending Demogorgon after the boy. According to the theory, it was thanks to Vecna that the lock to the Byers’ house was opened and Demogorgon could move around so freely.
Fans speculate that Season 5 will begin with a flashback to that scene in Season 1, showing Will lying in Castle Byers, weakly singing "Should I Stay or Should I Go" in 1983 with Vecna watching him from afar, confirming the theory once and for all.
