Redditor Lopnopll's suggests that not only is Vecna (Henry Creel, 001) still alive, but so is Mind Flayer. The assumption again boils down to El Kali's sister, 008, who was introduced in season 2.
The Redditor notes that Eight managed to escape from Henry's clutches using her abilities.
The bottom line, however, is that Will is connected to Mind Flayer, so the friends first tried to exorcise the monster from the teenager in order to save their friend.
Kali's powers work on Will's human side, but since Vecna is also human, her abilities may work on 001 as well.
Then Eight will be able to wipe out the entire Hive Mind and get rid of Vecna's servants. So he will be left alone in this battle.
Then the author of the theory abruptly switched to Terry (El's mother, whom she called Jane). Season 2 showed that she was stuck in a traumatic experience after her daughter was taken by Dr. Brenner.
