‘Stop Crying’: Andrew Scott Drops Bombshell Message for Fans of His 100%-Rated Hit
How can it pass?
Summary:
- Five years ago, the world saw the sad ending of the Fleabag series, starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Andrew Scott as her character’s love interest.
- The actor has recently expressed his dubious attitude towards people, who still rewatch the series, rebuking such fans’ behavior.
It may come as a shock to the series’ bingers that since airing the finale of Fleabag, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s banger dramedy series, five years have already passed.
It concluded by featuring the titular heroine left alone with the heart broken by the priest, portrayed by the new Ripley actor, the acclaimed Andrew Scott.
This scene has become enormously iconic, as it combines black comedy, as Scott’s character utters his now cultish phrase “It will pass”, with the painful drama of a young woman acknowledging her loneliness and misfortune in the rain of London.
Fans tend to rewatch the series, which consists only of two short seasons, paying special attention to its final scene, which is discussed to tear their hearts apart with every rewatch. However, even the Fleabag actor mocks such fan behavior.
In a recent EW video Scott sarcastically addressed people, still watching the show, advising them to practically stop doing it, go out and, so to speak, touch grass instead.
“Stop watching. <...> Stop crying in your room with your curtains closed. Do something better with your life. It’s a great show, we all love it, but come on now, pull yourself together. Open the curtains and go outside,” told the actor, laughing at the same time.
It may be perceived as a mere joke, but it actually doesn’t seem that way, especially in the light of last month’s statements of Harry Potter ’s star, Miriam Margolyes, claiming adult fans not to return to the magic franchise. However, let’s stick to the view Scott just expressed the irony towards the most introverted fans of TV shows as a whole.
The Fleabag fan community in its turn burst out with jokes about their addiction in response to the actor’s bold claim.
“Andrew could have chosen to not call me out personally, but here we are,” comments one Redditor.
Thus, Scott only rekindled people’s interest in one of his most remarkable roles, repeating the it-will-pass situation but not to Waller-Bridge’s character, but to all fans.
You can resist the actor’s statement and rewatch our favorite Fleabag, as it’s available on Prime and AppleTV+.
