Stephen King's Verdict: These 10 Films are a Complete Waste of Your Life
Stephen King knows a thing or two about writing.
And many of his books have been adapted for the big screen. So, when he talks on the subject of movies, people listen.
Here are 10 films that he is on record as saying he's not a fan of:
Transformers (2007) – King says he has only walked out of one movie as an adult – and this is it. For all the high praise it received for FX, King appears to agree with all those critics who felt it was severely lacking in its storyline and characters.
James Cameron Once Wrote Cringiest Spider-Man Sex Scene Imaginable
Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003) – In his review of this movie, which he described as "tepid", King also took a swipe at the wider works of Quentin Tarantino, saying they use too much over-the-top violence.
The Godfather: Part III (1990)
"Opulent, incoherent, and boring" was how he described The Godfather Part III, going on to say it's "a movie that doesn't matter".
The Shining (1980) – He didn't like the portrayals of Jack or Wendy Torrance and said that, although the movie looked "beautiful" it was like a "Cadillac with no engine".
The Twilight Saga (2008-2012) – He didn't like the books and he didn't like films. King felt the love story at the heart of the series should have been much deeper and said the film version was nothing more than "tweenager porn".
The Hunger Games (2012) – Despite writing in 2008 that he was eager for new instalments of the book series, by 2013 King had decided he liked neither the literary nor movie version. In the latter interview, he said, after reading the first book in the series he "didn't feel an urge to go on".
Brendan Fraser' s Best Role Was a Criminally Underappreciated TV Cameo
Fifty Shades of Grey (2015) – It's not clear whether he's watched the film. But he hated the book which he thought was "highly charged, sexually driven fiction" aimed at women between the ages of 18 and 25 rather than "mommy porn".
The Running Man (1987) – An adaptation of one of King's books that was very different from what he wrote and way off the mark according to the author. He was particularly critical of the choice of Arnold Schwarzenegger as the lead role.
Dreamcatcher (2003) – Another King adaptation that King didn't like. He wrote the book after an accident and whilst "pretty stoned". The book, he says, "shows the drugs at work". The movie was dreadful.
Firestarter (1984) "One of the worst" of the King adaptations, according to the author. He described it as "flavorless… like cafeteria mashed potatoes".
