Stephen King Hates This Adaptation Of His Story So Much He Won't Even Talk About It
The king of horror has many of his stories adapted for big and small screens — and he doesn't necessarily adore all of these adaptations.
Stephen King 's portfolio is full of stories that beg for a screen version; however, sometimes it just so happens that the author himself isn't too fond of the final result.
For instance, King is not a big fan of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, and The Dark Tower also doesn't enjoy a lot of positive feedback from him. However, there is a certain TV adaptation the king of horror won't even talk about — and it speaks volumes.
We're talking about Under the Dome by CBS, based on the eponymous novel. The adaptation "went off the rails and descended into complete mediocrity," according to what King, who "stopped watching it after a while," once said about it.
Recently, King has shared a podcast by The Losers Club, which focused on Under the Dome book. He said he liked the podcast, but when one of the followers mentioned the TV series, King's response was cold.
"I'm talking about the book. I don't talk about the TV series," King said.
Many fans agree that Under the Dome bastardized King's works, especially in second and third seasons, when the series decided to take a completely different creative path from what was put on the page.
So when King subtly shaded the TV adaptation once again, many of his followers supported the author, even though some people noted that they actually preferred the show to the book — mainly because they found it "too long and overdrawn."
Others offered what seems to be the best solution — not mixing the two completely different subjects that the books and the TV series are. After all, let everyone enjoy whatever they feel like enjoying. However, for Stephen King himself, the CBS's attempt at bringing Under the Dome to the screens was a flop.
