Starz Called Out for Milking Time After Outlander Season 7 Split Release Travesty
The seventh season will be split into two parts, but it's not like everyone is on cloud nine about it.
The extended seventh season of Outlander will premiere on Starz on June 16, with the entire season consisting of 16 episodes that will be split into two parts.
The second half of the series will premiere sometime in 2024, with no exact release date.
The news has left fans fuming online, with many people accusing the network of trying to "milk time" and artificially create some hype around the series.
People can't wrap their heads around the fact that the network decided to film all 16 episodes, but keep everyone hooked until 2024.
Some fans believe it is borderline "rude" of Starz to do this to people who are actually anxious to know how the story evolves. Others, however, are a little more understanding.
"I assume they have a big subscriber drop between OL seasons, especially once they are available on dvd or digital. So yes, they are milking it. I suspected all along they would split the season, too tempting for them not to," Redditor whiskynwine noted.
Well, as hard as it may be for Starz to deal with subscriber losses, many people are willing to deliberately cancel their subscriptions just to make a point. However, one fan noted that this is not the first time the network has pulled such a stunt.
"They did that with the first season too, and it allowed them to stay truer to the book and include small things that a shorter season wouldn't allow," Redditor OutlanderMom said.
Who knows? Maybe, the split release move will actually be good for the show. After the June 16 premiere of the first part of season 7, new episodes will be released weekly on Fridays.
