Maybe instead of coming up with a brand new villain, the writers should take a similar approach to the story.

When it was announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023 that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy would be directing the new Star Wars film about the rebuilding of the Jedi Order, with Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey, fan reaction was mixed.

Some were happy to hear that Disney is not done with the sequel era, others would have preferred to never hear about it again.

Regardless of which side you fall on, this is an opportunity to start fresh and possibly avoid the mistakes of the highly controversial trilogy.

Of course, one of the biggest questions is who will be the antagonist of the upcoming movie. Fans remember all too well the disastrous decision of the filmmakers to replace Snoke with Emperor Palpatine at the last moment.

The line "Somehow, Palpatine returned" will forever be remembered as one of the dumbest explanations in the entire franchise, and fans hope the writers have learned from past mistakes.

Some people have come up with some interesting ideas to solve this problem. Instead of introducing a new big bad villain that appears out of nowhere, they suggest taking a look at Top Gun: Maverick and make the main villain an idea, not a person or a faction.

At the heart of Maverick is the idea that the age of the hotshot fighter pilot is over, and it's time to move into a future of unmanned aircraft.

Tom Cruise's character would disagree, but he must teach a class of already top-notch pilots to fly an impossible mission. He may be getting on in years, but he wants to go out with a bang.

The next Star Wars movie may introduce a similar setup. Throughout the sequels, it has been reiterated that it is time for the Jedi to end, so Rey would end up struggling to rebuild the Order in a world full of skeptics.

Even if she has some kind of support, it would be difficult for her to prove to everyone that the Jedi are not done.

And if there is a direct threat, it could be a group of pirates, marauders, or even angry fanatics who are violently opposed to the return of the Jedi.

However, it would be much easier for the writers to pull out a brand new, barely explained villain and use him against our all-powerful protagonist.

No further plot details have been released, so fans will have to hope for the best.
