Stephen Hillenburg’s surreal animated series SpongeBob SquarePants may have had lots of characters with quite a tragic past that was unveiled at some point, but things like this were never actually highlighted about the show’s most successful marine citizen.
Apart from SpongeBob constantly struggling with no matter what happens in his life that he still tries to accept in as positive way as possible, his primary chef Mr. Krabs may have also had much worse times before getting his own restaurant and spending his free time counting all the coins he earned.
A viral theory with a much more profound look at Mr. Krabs and Bikini Bottom as a whole just stunned the show’s fans, leaving them unable to see the beloved series in the same way as before.
According to TikTok user @asheleyspam, it took her several years to realize that Bikini Bottom is actually a city compounded of numerous random objects that at some point were just dropped into the ocean, which is why all the houses are built with different car components that the marine citizens found while exploring the nearby area.

Though Bikini Bottom consisting of literal garbage that went down to the ocean bottom isn’t the end of it all. The user also pointed out a curious shape of Mr. Krabs’s diner Krusty Krab which looks pretty much like an old crab trap that also landed on the bottom at some point.
On top of that, the most disheartening detail of this all is that Mr. Krabs owns it most likely because once he was caught in it, though got a lucky chance to escape and turn his cage into a profitable business.
Though nothing like this has ever been mentioned in the show whatsoever, this theory indeed has all chances to actually be true.
Despite all the mystery surrounding the story of how exactly Mr. Krabs ended up having Krusty Krab, SpongeBob SquarePants was still pretty clear about the greedy character’s tough past life which surely gave him a big incentive to strive for higher standards in the future.
