It is both sad and comical how creators treat beloved franchises these days.

The news that HBO is rebooting the Harry Potter franchise as a TV series with an entirely new cast took fans by surprise.

The reasoning behind this decision is that the movies weren't enough to fully translate the story to the screen, and with each season being an adaptation of each book, it would allow for a better portrayal of the story.

However, as one Instagram meme suggests, we all know the real reason this reboot is happening.

Of course, it's all about the money, it always has been, and no amount of fancy wordplay is going to change that.

This is why the majority of remakes are made, even if the original is not that outdated and still in high demand by the audience, just like the Harry Potter movies.

Naturally, many fans are disappointed because they have grown attached to the original cast and fear that this new take on the franchise will not be up to the quality of its predecessor.

You could argue that these are two separate projects and if you don't like it, you can just not watch it, but it's not so easy to see the thing you grew up with bastardized in front of you.

The Lord of the Rings fans are in the same boat right now, as Warner Bros. is planning to reboot the movie trilogy as well.

However, we think that Star Wars fans are the ones who have been treated particularly harshly, as it is one thing to have a reboot that you can choose to ignore, and quite another when much of the previous story is retconned and the sequels completely twist familiar characters, tarnishing your memories of them.

That is not to say that this new adaptation does not deserve at least a chance.

As some fans point out, the original films were not 100% accurate, for example regarding the book versions of Ginny, Ron and Hermione.

So maybe the TV format will actually allow for a more accurate transfer of their characters to the screen.

A release date for the series has not yet been announced.
