Spider-Man Star Almost Lost Her Role After Refusing to Get 'Barbie Doll Teeth'
The Spider-Man franchise's most iconic MJ is largely beloved by fans all over the world, but she risked losing the role and the $19M salary just to keep her teeth intact.
Sam Raimi 's Spider-Man is a cornerstone for its successors' greatness.
Along with the director, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst paved the road for the future generations of live-action Spider-Men, and the original movies are still many fans' favorites — but they could've been very different from what we have now.
In Hollywood, cosmetic procedures and even surgeries are something of a daily routine: the absolute majority of A-listers and even somewhat prominent actors have made at least a couple of changes to their physical appearance.
Sometimes, their roles demand that, and sometimes, the actors just strive to look perfect.
Despite this practice being so common in the industry, some performers hate the idea of tampering with their appearance.
And while it's known that there are actors who agreed to the procedures reluctantly after a whole lot of monetary stimulus, others were ready to lose their multi-million contracts over their principles.
Kirsten Dunst was one of the latter. The audience has always found her smile charming and endearing, but the Spider-Man's producer was not on board with that.
He tried to insist that Kirsten change her smile for what he called 'Barbie doll teeth' and claimed it was necessary for the upside-down kissing scene with Toby.
But the young actress was having none of that: despite having quite a few millions of salary on the line, Kirsten replied that she was not going to do that because she liked her teeth the way God created them, thank you very much.
In the end, the producer gave up, and Mary-Jane had Kirsten's charming smile as we know it.
As the actress revealed later while sharing this story, one of the main reasons for her strong convictions against tampering with her appearance was her mother's passion for perfect looks.
Back in the day, it impacted young Kirsten in the completely opposite way: she learned to love herself just the way she was and reject any artificial changes.
