The next season will apparently arrive later than the previous ones, but fans’ hope dies last.

South Park may have had a long path, but it’s still being impatiently awaited. Since the show started in 1997, there have already been 26 seasons, but the course of the release schedule has changed drastically making fans wait longer than they used to.

Now that the show is about to drop its 27th season, there are some reasons why it’ll happen not as early as it could be.

One of the main obstacles for a timely release is a huge expansion of the South Park universe — first with some special projects and now with a new spinoff game that is set to be released on March 26.

Since the previous two seasons of the show became available for viewers in early February of 2022 and 2023 respectively and ended in late March, season 27 is clearly late.

On top of that, the creators will bring all their attention to the promotion of the new game so that it could potentially repeat the success of previous games — 2014's The Stick of Truth and 2017's The Fractured but Whole. All this means that the new season of South Park, unlike the brand new game, is not the company’s top priority.

Meanwhile fans are coming up with their own predictions — and the recent Hollywood strike that made most of the biggest projects stagnate for several months is not one of the reasons.

What gives the most hope to the devoted fans right now is — surprisingly — the upcoming court trial between HBO and Paramount+ to stream the series (with the former seasons 25 and 26 got seven episodes each instead of 10 that are usual for South Park, which led to a huge discontent in the fandom), the date for which is April 17.

This could mean not only Paramount +’s possible winning over HBO and turning to a norm of 10 episodes per season, but also that the season may be released soon after the trial is over. Whether it’s a delusion or not, fans will see next month.
