Sorry, Young Sheldon Fans, There's No Getting Out Of Its Most Tragic Twist
The Big Bang Theory's prequel spin-off Young Sheldon offers existing fans and new viewers alike a chance to get a closer look at the infamous boy-genius Sheldon Cooper's life growing up.
However, being a prequel, there are some storylines that may be unavoidable as parts of them have been previously established by TBBT. And unfortunately, there is one tragic twist that may be underway, no matter how sad it is.
Young Sheldon is a popular show in its own right, and it's considered to be separate from TBBT. Having said that, it's intended to precede Sheldon Cooper's story, which was first introduced in the original sitcom. And as the show's sixth season has already hit the screens, many fans have been coming to a sad realization that devastating events may soon take place in the sitcom – Sheldon's father's infidelity and death.
Although we were given little background about George Sr. in TBBT, as you may remember, we learned through some of Sheldon's mentions that George Sr. had an affair and passed away when Sheldon was 14. Those two facts about him are undoubtedly important as they impacted Sheldon as a person.

However, not all fans are happy with the thought of seeing this play out. In fact, some stated that they would prefer if the showrunners took a different direction and didn't follow the canon as they want a beloved character to live. Others, on the other hand, think that this would be a risky move as the Sheldon we know from TBBT might not have turned out to be the same if he didn't experience these unfortunate events.
In the original sitcom, for instance, we found out that Sheldon discovered his father sleeping with another woman.
This traumatized him so much that he decided to always knock on the door three times before opening it, with the first one being courteous and the remaining two for people to "get their pants on." Not only that but there was a point when his own arguments with his girlfriend reminded him of his parents and what his father did, leaving him worried that he might do the same thing.
One proposed resolution for these storylines is to prevent Young Sheldon from getting to that point but not changing history either. Many longtime fans of TBBT would be upset if the showrunners were to omit pre-established narratives, as that would truly separate the two shows. Not to mention the fact that there have already been countless inconsistencies between the sitcoms.

The writers, as well as some fans, may want to take a different direction, but it's also important to keep in mind that without the original show, the prequel wouldn't exist. So, staying true to the biggest plot points of the lore or at least the spirit of the origins is important, no doubt.
