Snagging the Role Chris Evans Rejected Got Mark Wahlberg Nominated for 'Worst Actor'
Sometimes, actors regret missing out on a lucrative role; sometimes, they're happy to have turned down a terrible offer. For Mark Wahlberg, it's the combo of the two: he regrets starring in Infinite.
Despite playing Captain America, Chris Evans apparently has an amazing Spider-Sense. Just a couple of years ago, in 2021, he graciously dodged a buller the size of a cannon ball by declining the offer to star in the new sci-fi movie Infinite.
While the film's synopsis sounded rather fun, but he was busy with his other project, and it saved him: Infinite bombed so hard it's almost mythical.
Mark Wahlberg, on the other hand, jumped right on board the burning bullet-train. As Evans had to pass on the offer, Wahlberg picked it up — and arguably, it was one of the worst decisions of his entire career.
The actor's performance was largely frowned upon, and he went down together with the movie.
In fact, after Infinite, some of the critics stated that Wahlberg “should never be in a science fiction movie ever again.”
Infinite was blasted to oblivion by all major media, critics, and the general audience. The consensus was that despite an intriguing start, the movie quickly became utterly incoherent and inconsequential.
The critics claimed that Wahlberg was expressionless, the script insane, and Infinite as a whole was named one of the worst movies of 2021 by The New York Times. But that wasn't even all.
Infinite was also nominated for three Golden Raspberry Awards — the laughable awards that are specifically given to the worst pieces of cinema in the world. A bigger yet punch in the gut for Mark Wahlberg was that he, too, was nominated for Worst Actor for his performance in Infinite.
In case the actor was not feeling destroyed enough by that point, on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie got a horrifying 17% score.
It's safe to say that the reception of Infinite and Mark Wahlberg's performance in it was as rough as it could possibly be. For an actor of Wahlberg's scale, it can't be called anything other than humiliation.
Chris Evans, on the other hand, avoided this entire shitstorm and had no idea what he could've gotten himself into.
We bet he was more than happy that he'd had to pass on that role in Infinite as soon as he learned just how terribly the movie bombed.
The project he chose over Infinite, a film called Defending Jacob, did really well, too. Admittedly, sometimes, it's only right to pass on some opportunities.
