Skeleton Crew: Release Date & Everything We Know about Upcoming Star Wars Show
Will it be another flop or a success?
After The Acolyte flop, some in the Star Wars fan community rushed to announce another crisis of ideas for their beloved universe. However, at the recent Disney D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event conference, material on planned projects in the universe of a galaxy far, far away was finally shown.
Among the presentations, there was room for new details on the Star Wars: Skeleton Crew series, about which no new details were known for so long that rumors of the project's cancellation began to appear. But the presentation dispelled all suspicions.
At the conference, a trailer was shown and even the premiere date of the first episode of the eight-part project was announced – it will be released on December 3. We tell you everything we know about the new series about the Jedi.
What Will Skeleton Crew Be About?
The plot revolves around a group of kids who find themselves in the middle of an exciting but dangerous adventure. Judging by the trailer, the story begins after children discover an ancient spaceship in the forest.
After making their way inside, they find a mysterious skeleton. In addition to the remains, which presumably belong to the owner of the spaceship, a droid is found on board. It is he who will lead the young explorers into the world of galactic adventure.
As for the main and perhaps the only big star of the series – Jude Law, the actor will play one of the Jedi who survived Order 66, during the execution of which almost the entire order of users of the light side of the Force was destroyed.
At the D23, mannequins of the Nikto pirate Vane, known from The Mandalorian series, and his henchmen were shown. It looks like they will be the main villains of the most kid-friendly series in the Star Wars universe.
Skeleton Crew Timeline
The events of Skeleton Crew will take place after the sixth episode, about the same time as the adventures of Din Djarin from The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, so the series will be part of the so-called Mandoverse.
Skeleton Crew Looks Unusual But Promising
At the moment, the eight-episode series looks at least strange and unusual for the universe of a galaxy far, far away. Some shots from the trailer do not at all resemble a project from the world created by George Lucas.
However, sometimes it is the projects that look like dark horses that turn out to be something fresh. Moreover, one of the main characters will be a representative of the Ortolan race, familiar to all fans of Star Wars since the sixth episode.
Perhaps we will see a repeat of the success of Andor, which is actually a prequel to the spin-off of the main series of films and told the story of a secondary character. It seems difficult to make something really interesting out of such a concept, but showrunner Tony Gilroy succeeded, and Andor became one of the best series of 2022.
But don't expect anything big from the project: the trailer shown at D23 confirmed the assumption that Skeleton Crew is a children's adventure, which is unlikely to include epic events that will affect the fate of the entire galaxy. At the same time, the eight-episode project about kids returning home could be a cozy adventure to watch with your kids.
