Simple Reason Why Ellen Pompeo Is Ready To Let Meredith Grey Go
Everyone deserves a happy ending.
As an actor, you can choose your approach to your career: while some strive to get as many roles as possible to try as many different challenges as possible, others prefer to go slow and steady.
Sometimes, however, they don't have any control: their acting destiny finds them through the shows and franchises that become extremely popular with viewers.
That's exactly what happened to Ellen Pompeo, who never intended to play Meredith Grey for so long, but somehow got caught up in the adventure that is Grey's Anatomy and stayed with it for many years.
Now that it is time to move on to other projects, many are wondering how it feels. When you are attached to a character for over 18 years, it must be hard to let them go.
You've grown with them: gone through all the hardships, learned a lot of new things, and gained a newfound appreciation for something you may never have thought about before.
All that, and Ellen Pompeo still found the strength to step aside and let her iconic character Meredith Grey live a little without her influence.
This is going to be a big change not only for the showrunners and writers of Grey's Anatomy, who will have to focus their stories more on other characters and much less on the former protagonist, but also for the actress herself.
Speaking with co-star Katherine Heigl for Variety, Pompeo explained how she is dealing with the situation:
"I've been on the show so long, I'm happy to let that go. We're past that point. I think it's OK for Meredith to stop making bad decisions. <...> I felt so happy to be able to step away, and I felt like I accomplished something incredible."
Luckily, the actress wouldn't have much time to think about Meredith Grey anyway, as she's already involved in the production of another series.
The Orphan, Hulu 's limited series based on a true story, will help the actress showcase her talent from a whole different angle that viewers have not seen before.
