CBS should get their hands on it.

Summary:

  • Silo is a sci-fi television series based on the Silo trilogy of novels by Hugh Howey.
  • The show was picked up by Apple TV Plus early in the development of the first novel adaptation.
  • Fans are concerned that the second season of the show will not drop its weakest point to date, the police drama.

There is a time, a place, and an audience for every TV show or movie imaginable. No matter the genre, the cast, or the budget, pretty much any idea can attract certain people who would be willing to watch and support it.

Depending on the network and the way the story is marketed, it may get more or less viewers, but it will never go completely unnoticed.

Silo, the sci-fi dystopian drama that aired on Apple TV Plus in May 2023, attracted its own group of viewers based on its main premise. Those who enjoyed the show's apocalyptic and survivalist motifs easily got on board with the science fiction element of the show. But there was one thing they couldn't appreciate.

The way the show leaned into the themes of police work and investigation failed to impress viewers.

Instead of keeping people hooked on the mystery, Silo almost made it the reason why people would drop the show.

Will There Be Silo Season 2?

The second season of Silo has been officially ordered and will resume filming in December 2023, after being put on hold due to WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The only thing that worries viewers now is that the show will continue to lean into the police drama style that it definitely couldn't handle.

The dystopian world of Silo is what drew many people to the show. The idea of a closed community trapped underground in the safety of Silo, which is only a cover for a larger catastrophe, was intriguing enough for viewers to stick around.

In such a setting, the last thing anyone would want to see is the police. And yet it was front and center throughout the show's first season.

While fans are eager for Juliette to continue her journey, anything that happens in the silo should not revolve around the sheriff again.

“The police stuff (and the obviousness of the villains) I just felt was embarrassingly bad. <...> I found it watchable but agree that the "police/mystery" aspect was really weak by the ending. The villain reveals were borderline laughable to me, since none of them had remotely been pretending to be anything but evil most of the time anyway,” Redditor DumpedDalish said.

While not everyone's opinion is quite as radical, many people agree that the show has not lived up to its dynamic and entertaining novel counterpart.

However, if you are still interested in seeing what Silo Season 2 has to offer, be sure to keep an eye out for more news and behind-the-scenes updates so you do not miss a release date.
